Microsoft Office Mobile Is Now Free On Android Phones For 'Home Use' Only

Almost a year ago, Microsoft released Office Mobile for Android phones to the Play Store. The caveat, of course, was that it required an Office 365 subscription in order to use the application, which was kind of a bummer.

Fast-forward to today, and you may have heard that Office is finally available for the iPad - a rumor that we've seen come and go several times over the last couple of years. That's not all Microsoft had up its sleeve, however, because today's change also affects Android users in a positive way.

As of now, Office Mobile is completely free to use for "home use." That means no more Office 365 requirements, and the app is totally free. The downside, of course, is that it's still just for Android phones. Perhaps Microsoft is working on something similar to Office for iPad for Android tablets - only time will tell (but I wouldn't hold my breath).

In the meantime, however, you can get to editing on your phone as much as you want.
