Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 Roll Out Continues with Big Release

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat release continues with another big roll out though it's not the elusive Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat release that continues to elude owners inside the United States.

In January, Samsung quietly started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, making it the first Android 4.4 KitKat update to emerge from Samsung's labs. The update's roll out started out fairly slow, hitting a couple of variants in a couple of different regions, before it started pushing out at a tremendous pace several weeks later.

Over the past few months, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has hit a number of big name devices including variants on AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, and T-Mobile. The update has also landed for members of the international community. And while the roll out has been swift, there are still a number of updates left to fulfill, including the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update, an update that remains in the shadows.

Today, Samsung has issued another big Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update though it's not for the Verizon model. Instead, it's for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, another version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that launched a few weeks ago with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board.

The update is reportedly now available for the SM-N750S version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, a variant that is confined to Korea, Samsung's home base. The update, according to SamMobile, is evidently available Over-the-Air and through Samsung Kies which means that Galaxy Note 3 Neo owners in Korea can install the upgrade today.

This new update is expected to mirror the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates that have landed for Galaxy Note 3 variants all over the world. What this means is that it should get Android 4.4 features, performance enhancements and the change to the Notification Bar. Samsung's status bar icons are now white with Android 4.4 KitKat.

This represents the start of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo Android 4.4 KitKat release and the update should stick to Samsung's normal Android update patterns. Expect the roll out to be modeled after the regular Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 release which is ongoing several months later. While there are fewer Galaxy Note 3 Neo models in existence, we expect the roll out process to take several weeks if not several months to complete.

The regular Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out is ongoing months later and it has yet to hit several key devices around the globe. Among them, the Verizon Galaxy Note 3, which remains on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Verizon, like many carriers, has yet to issue any official information regarding the missing update and likely won't until the software is ready to roll.

Verizon's Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update has yet to roll out either and a recent leak suggests that the update may not roll out until May 2nd, or several weeks from now. Verizon, like many carriers, typically rolls out major Galaxy updates in close proximity to one another so we could see Verizon deliver both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates within the next few weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is still missing for other carriers too including a trio of carriers in Australia. Those carriers have yet to receive the update for testing which means that their release is likely several weeks away at least. Carrier testing typically takes a few weeks and is necessary before an update can be approved for public consumption.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are expected to be followed by updates for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3. Both updates have been confirmed for arrival though Samsung remains coy about specific release dates.

In the United States, a number of other devices are expected to get Android 4.4 KitKat updates at some point down the road. Samsung already confirmed updates for the Samsung Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, and Galaxy Light. The company still hasn't shed light on any release details for those devices.

It's not clear what will be next for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo owners and owners of Samsung's other Galaxy-branded devices. Rumors suggest that Google could be looking at delivering a brand new Android update this summer, possibly dubbed Android 4.5, but nothing is set in stone.

Google, for the past few years, has released a brand new Android update in the middle of the year alongside a new Nexus device. The company is expected to debut a brand new Nexus 8 tablet in the mid-year which means that there is a good chance it could deliver a brand new Android update to replace Android 4.4 KitKat.

Android 4.4 KitKat is just now hitting devices like the Galaxy Note 3 Neo but the update has been out on Android devices since November.
