Motorola releases Android 4.4 update for Moto G ahead of...

The inexpensive, yet surprisingly good, Motorola Moto G has only been on the market for a couple of weeks, but it's already getting its first major software update. Motorola announced today that Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the latest version of Android available from Google, is now available for the entry level phone. The company had initially expected to release the update in the early part of next year, but it was able to beat that target by a couple of weeks.

Like the Android 4.4 update for the Moto X and other Motorola phones, the Moto G update offers a refined user experience and performance enhancements over the Android 4.3 software that it launched with. It does not, however, include the Google Experience Launcher or Google Caller ID dialer offered on the Nexus 5.

The update will be delivered to Moto G smartphones purchased from Motorola.com and Amazon in the US first, while other regions and carriers will get it in the near future.
