The Moto G will arrive in the US with Android 4.4 KitKat in tow

The Moto G might just turn out to be one of the best budget phones ever. Not only does it have the looks and hardware to compete with phones that cost a lot more, but Motorola has confirmed that by the time it arrives in the U.S., it'll be running Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

According to Mark Randal, senior vice president of Motorola's supply chain and operations, "Wave two, products that we ship after Christmas, will start with KitKat. So if you think about it, everyone by the end of January will have KitKat. Wave 2 is in the U.S., there's South East Asia and other countries."

So by the time the Moto G lands on U.S. store shelves in January, it will be running Android 4.4. It isn't clear whether the phone will come with KitKat pre-installed, or if you'll have to install an update after taking it out of the box. But either way Motorola seems to be a heck of a lot faster than many other other smartphone makers, some of which haven't even detailed KitKat update plans yet.

So not only will you be getting some very respectable mid-range hardware in the Moto G, you'll also be getting the latest software available, which is becoming increasingly rare for new devices. The lack of LTE support makes me think the Moto G is geared more towards other countries, but there's no denying it'll be a very good deal in the U.S. as well.
