There was a time when men where left to wonder what on earth women kept in their handbags. But now, it seems the tables have turned, with 55 per cent of British men carrying a 'man bag' and filling it with contents worth an average of £880.27.
According to a poll the item most likely to be stashed in a man-bag is a wallet, with smartphones a close second and tablet computers and laptops following in third place.
Headphones, glasses, aftershave, chewing gum, umbrellas and diaries also feature in the top ten, as well as digital cameras and other items they might need every day.
A poll of 2,000 men found that whether for practical reasons or to make a celebrity-inspired fashion statement, manbags, carried by the likes of David Beckham and Kanye West, are an increasingly common sight.
One in ten men will also pack a spare pare of underwear, while nine per cent will pack a toothbrush with them.
Anita Naik, the consumer editor of Vouchercodes.co.uk, who carried out the survey, said: 'The research shows men are starting to embrace the manbag and recognise the practical benefits of carrying everything in one place, especially with expensive tech to carry around every day.
'For those men who aren't sure the practical benefits of carrying a bag outweigh the potential fashion risks, there are some great websites that allow you to browse through a huge variety of styles, from satchels to holdalls, meaning there's something for everyone.
'These sites offer regular discounts so you can often bag a great deal in the process.'
The average contents of a woman's handbag were found in a survey by John Lewis to cost £1,209.99.
